exhibition wilder kaiser

Alpine world, myth and experience of the “Kaisergebirge”

Station 9: look into the distance – feeling in proximity

Aim of the exhibition:

Station nr.9 of the exhibition <Kaisergebirge, Mythos und Erlebnis> gives you the chance to feel emotions, experiences and sensory impressions regarding the mountain range within  rooms (the museum in St.Johann in Tirol, municipal facilities, companies and also private places), as well as on the streets and public places.

A dynamic and flexible concept of the exhibition is prevalent in various stations and areas; moreover there are mobile and variable exhibition spaces at different places, which bring the numerous emotions and contents directly to the visitor. The visitors are active participants as they play an interactive role in composition, change and vitalization of the exhibition; they influence a process of constant change and arouse new interest.

Viewing platforms facilitate a stunning view on the mountain “Wilder Kaiser”. At the same time these platforms convey feelings associated with hiking, such as insecurity, height or vertigo.

In all towns around this mountain -like St.Johann in Tirol, Going, Ellmau, Scheffau, Kufstein, Walchsee, Kössen, Schwendt and Söll- exhibits are placed and there are various facilities connected among each other, which function in connection with the central museum, the center of the exhibition.

Communication. Communication in the mountains.

Yodeling, whistling languages, emergency signals, binoculars, fire signals, smoke signals, blazes, markings, radio, telephone, echo and web-cams are all part of the system of communication which one can experience. They establish a connection between distance and proximity. The direct witnessing of triumph and defeat shall be transmitted through audio documents.

With the aid of something similar to a language-learning program, visitors can learn to “juchitzen” (a kind of yodeling). One’s own echo can be made audible and the visitors can send the yodeling signal per e-mail all over the world for promotion purposes, in order to draw attention to the exhibition, the mountain range and its surrounding towns. A CD is made from all the recordings which then will be sold as a “greeting from the region” and therefore the visitors can send their individually designed experience from the exhibition.

The mountain inside the head, mountain ranges in imagination

Limit experience, supernatural, myths, fear, stories, religion, depth psychology, dream, art, magic and witchcraft are just some of the ideas and concepts that appear in the region, especially the alpine world of the “Kaisergebirge”.

Methods of conveying

Uncommon ways of bringing the alpine world home to the people: an edelweiss for everyone, quotations on streets and walls, backpacks filled with information on the mountains, post cards or breakfast rolls with logo;

Homepage with creative progress of the content of the exhibition, as well as the involvement of the visitors and connection to the museums, network and hiking community;

Mobile stations, web-cams, art, online games, SMS, MMS, advertisement, social communities;

Collaboration with the Biohotel Stanglwirt.  The restaurant serves as one of the outposts of the exhibition. Sensory impressions and pleasure next to the “Wilder Kaiser”. The hotel  adopted a couple of eagles in the “Kaisergebirge”.

Further facilities in the towns surrounding the “Wilder Kaiser” are declared part of the exhibition.
